Cam didnt make it!
Have carbeurated stock 502 mag. 242LS Formula Use for cruising mostly, real heavy boat I need a lot of torgue to plane looking if anyone has figured optimum set up, lift, duration, type, preferences like good speed but really not looking for excess. Just a killer idle. Should I be considering changing over from flat tappet to roller? What are benefits...cons I also if it matters am presently running manifolds thru hull due to headers DNFed in spring planning on new ones but due to needing a new top end will probably have to wait:D What will I be expecting for Max output without pushing the envelope?
Thanks, Rocket |
I have an 87 242 LS.
When I first removed the 454/330 and alpha/1.32, I replaced it with a 502/bravo/1.5. It did 57 mph on a good day. With the HP 500 it did 70 mph on a good day. I used Chevy head 10101137. Large oval port with lots of work done. Weiand Team G single plane, port matched to heads. 800 Holley carb. Cam was an HP500 cam. Crane # 169611. Specs are 222/230 .576/598 110 lsa 105 icl. With about 9.5:1 it made a little over 500hp. I used a 23 mirage and topped out at 5200 rpm. Ps. I'm now Pro Charged with Merlin heads bigger Crane cam and around 900hp. Approx 95 mph. DAVE |
