Aluminum on transom?
Has anyone ever put aluminum plate on the inside of their transom?
I have my engine compartment empty and clean and I was thinking some aluminum plate would look nice across the back of the engine room. |

Actually I was thinking both. I am also curious why you don't see any boats with it.
I guess stress cracks might be an issue but I'm not metallurgist.:drink: |
No real reason for it. The transom should be plenty strong enough. Just paint it if it needs dressed up.

Hard to maintain, hard to mount something to it and traps moisture to start. That being said I see someone do the motor box in diamond plate. Talk about bling bling.
|
I would rather be able to view the transom. The plate will hide leaks and stress cracks that may appear. It will also show dirt more than a painted transom.

Those are valid points. I think the moisture issue would supersede the bling factor.
Thanks for the replies gentlemen! Chuck |
