where to buy a simple snap / strap

Hey guys.. Should be a really easy find but apparently not.

I have a bathroom door that in BIG water comes unlatched.

I wanted to buy a white nylon strap (like those on a life jacket) Screw it to the door molding the a snap on the door.

Everywhere I look I can only find Snap kits (with every snap in the world) and rolls of nylon.

I will guy it if I have to but anyone know a link that I can get literally 4 inches of white straping, a screw and a snap kit?

Any ideas?

Funny how that works huh??

Maybe you can use a strap from an old life jacket and then only buy that little 4 pack of snaps from westmarine?? If you already have the snap tool that should work. Even if you dont have an old life jacket im sure you have one that has extra strap on it from the adjusting. Worth a shot.

I have made several. I used left over left Velcro and just put normal snaps on it. You can buy the tools and snaps for under $30. I also used a thin dog coller for a strap, just put the buttons on it.

Go to your local pet store and buy a dog leash. They come in a bazillion colors and are easy to work with.

Figure out what size you want to cut it to, and wrap it with 1 layer of scotch tape. Cut through the middle of the tape. Then use a heat gun or similar to melt the ends of the nylon to prevent unraveling. Then pull the tape off. You may have to "drill" a pilot hole through the strap with a heated nail in order to get a snap through there.

I don't recommend using white. It gets dirty too easy and will char when you melt it.

West Marine also sells "webbing" as it's called in the sailboat hardware department.

Southco makes nice rubber latches that hold my cabin doors tight. Just thought might offer that as an alternative.
