Default 94, Merc 454 Mag water pump.

Any one has a cross reference number from the Merc pump to a standard auto part pump?
I think the Merc pump no. is 811573. I just want to keep this "low cost". Or does anyone have one?
Thx
P

If you want the cheapest get a glm or Sierra. I wont use a auto water pump because the impeller is not stainless which you need for corrosion unless the cooling system is closed with antifreeze that has rust inhibitors.

The mercury pump, and most marine aftermarket pumps, differs from an auto pump in that the seal is stainless/ceramic(seal dosen't corrode and bearings don't fail premature). the impeller is bi-directional for use with v-belts or serpentine belts vs the one way rotation of an auto pump, the impeller in the merc is non corrosive vs the stamped sheet metal one found in most auto pumps that want last two seasons in salt water. The merc also has a stainless backing plate vs the typical rust prone sheetmetal backing on an auto pump. A marine aftermarket probably cost $80.

You could ask at any parts house for a short neck big block chevy auto water pump.

I was at 4 autostores, after checking out 2 doz pumps, no luck. Shaft is wrong, to tall, wrong holes, you name it. I finaly found what fits, but have to be orderd, so mind as well get the marine. I guess I have time for cocktails tonite, no late evening bilge ballet.
Part no. 58-133, casting no. 3992077, for 71-72 Corvette W/454. (5 3/4" pulley shaft height.)
Go figure.
