Sharpen the Prop Edge???
 

A guy showed me this weekend where he had taken his Dremmel and ground the edges of his stainless prop to a razor sharp edge. His theory was the prop would "cut" into/through the water improving the bite.

A valid point??? Or wasted effort and more of a threat of injury??

Leave that kinda stuff to the guys that "lab". Even the most meticulous 'shade tree"guy will probably do more harm than good with his dremmel. Remember also that aircraft props are shaped but not sharpened on the leading edges to provide the most efficient entry and thrust. --- Jer

Sharpening does work. We used to use a flat file and sand paper. This was usually worth about 1 mph. Don't cut yourself.

John B is right but remember you want to feed the pressure face of the propeller, just be carefull which side you remove material from on the leading edge! Best Regards

Make the front of the blade flat with the leading edge. Don't file material off the front of the leading edge except to remove a bulge. File the material from the back side of the blade. Try to remove the same amount from each blade.

Don't forget to rebalance the prop and to remove all the stress risers. I'm just wondering why you wouldn't just wait until the prop needs some repair and ask the shop to apply some tweeks to it.
