Can i hook my gps speedo into the same antenna that i use for my chart plotter?

Yes, but you need a true GPS splitter. You see, the GPS antenna gets powered by the destination device. A typical 2-way splitter (like you need) will need a DC block on one of the two ports. Here is a link:
