Mirage+ or LaserII

Before I drop $500+ later this week when my Alpha is finished I need a second opinion on prop selection. 89 Stingray (svc200), 3000# Max, 260HP/Alpha 1.50. Was using a 23P QS and it seemed to lug and wouldn't only get 4K-4100RPM WOT @60mph. I was thinking of going to a Mirage+ 21P but they also list the LaserII being good for ALPHAs. Please help me make the $$$ choice.

Additional Info.

The Stingray is the 20ft model.

I'm running a 21" Mirage with an Alpha 1.5 and a 350 MAG (270 hp) on a 1988, 20.5 ft Formula F206 LS. Top end is 58 mph @ 4600 rpm.
Factory rep told me I have the wrong prop on it. They found that it came out of the hole better and performed better with a 19" Laser II. Their testing also found that it lost only 2 mph at top end and got better fuel consumption numbers.
I haven't changed props yet, still running the 21" Mirage.

The Laser II looks to have smaller blades (less area) than a Mirage. The Laser also has more rake to it, more bow lift. The Mirage+ is cupped and acts like it's one inch larger in pitch than a regular Mirage.

I was thinking on trying a 21" Laser II to see how it performs.
Unfortunately my funds are low at the moment and I'll have to wait a while.

Let me know what you decide. I'd be curious to know how it works.

This may or may not apply,

But I tried a 27" laser II on a 21' Baja with a small blower motor and could never get it to hook up. You may think that was an extreme situation, but it was happening ALL the time, not just at wot. I could be going 2500rpms and give some throttle and it would just raise rpm and boat would slowly accelerate. It was slipping like mad. A buddy that ran a laser II on his 23' boat and swore by it, tried a mirage and was shocked that he went faster at lower rpms, proving that the laser was in a constant state of slip on his boat. I have been told that the laser is made for smaller (lighter) boats (bass boats..) and does not have enogh blade area for our size boats.

I have progressed through 4 different size mirage props on my boat over the last few years and they have always worked great.

Hope that helps...

FYI

Marc at BAM MARINE is a great source for props and info of this sort. He's on this board (mbam). Check out his site at go-fast.com.

What Brad Perry said.

The Laser II is more of an outboard motor prop.

I tried one on my Alpha in a 17ft and it blew out in turns and slipped a lot.

Go with the Mirage Plus 21". More blade area.
