fuel pump problem
Hey, I have a quick question I need help with. I tried to start the boat today and it wont go. I can usually hear the fuel pump prime, but nothing when the key is turned on. It is a 4.3 Volvo. So I tested for power at the fuel pump connection and nothing. I tested down to the relay and it has 12 volts. I swapped relays with no luck. The dead man switch has already been bypassed. I ran power straight to the pum and it turned on. I'm at a complete loss. I know it's something simple I'm missing. I put a little fuel into the carb and it started right up. Ideas? Thanks

I know some merc's run an oil pressure switch in them . Must have oil pressure before it will put juice to the fuel pump .

I would start by checking for continuity in the wires between the pump and the relay. Might be a loose connection, broken or corroded wire. Do you know for sure that the relay you tried was good ? :drink:

if the pump spins then it should build pressure in the rail and thats all it needs. if the fuel press gage says zero , its not going to start. if it says 38 or so it should start if everything else is good. you need to know if you have fuel pressure in the rail... thats the first thing
