polishing lower unit

Just had an idea. Considering polishing the lower unit on my bravo drive. I boat in fresh water and only keep tyhe boat in the water overnight about 3 times a year. Anyone think this is a bad idea?

Personally I'd leave it painted, I put a unpainted Imco lower on and wished I'd went to a polished or painted one, you'll find it harder to keep clean, IMO

Have it powdercoated silver, or you could go with a silver Imron. ALuminum will dull pretty quickly, even if in fresh water, and be very careful about galvanic corrosion.

The brushed aluminum finish is the fastest. it allows the water to release from the metal faster. the painted and polished metals hold the water which actually sticks to the surface longer. I'm sure it's minimal but the fastest boats are brushed for a reason and while it's in the water, who can see it. I'd rather have my boat seen in the water than on the trailer. IMO

I polished mine a few times. Lasted about 1/4 a day.

Thanks for the input guys. Im not gonna do it. Staying at a busy marina over memorial weekend, dont want to have to worry about galvanic corrosion

I stripped mine then wet sanded. I use a sanding pad keep it clean (scotch bright). I was hoping for 1/2 MPH or so but did not notice a speed gain.

If your going for looks you can polish it and then clear power coat it or do the chrome powder coating on it
