up or down???
here is the lame one for the day....
when trailering and storing, do you keep the drive up or down??? i've seen it both ways..... gm: |
I've been told by builder to keep the drive down while in storage. He said there is less stress on the hydraulics and all of your rubber bellows are not being stretched for a period of time. He also said if the bellows aren't fully exposed (in the full stretch position) there will be less chance of dry rott.

Another reason to keep the drive down when storing is if you are where it freezes. With the drive down it will not collect water and risk cracking.

Trailer up with "clips". Store down. --- Jer

jp,
what are "clips"? |
"trailering clips" are a heavy 2/3 dia. plastic tube just a bit shorter than your trim ram extention that will "clip" over the extended ram and let you lower the drive till there is no load on the hyds. --- Jer

Thanks for the info, are these avaliable in west marine type of stores?
|
Yeah, I think so; but I made my own from some rigid PVC, being the cheap SOB that I am. --- Jer
|
Well, I really had to make 'em cause nobody had anything available for those old, big dia. TRS rams. --- Jer

One of my manuals stated to store with drives down also as all above have said,....Fred
