question about sea pump?

Howdy yall, we fired the boat the first time this year with the muffs on the hose and didn't get any water out the exhaust or the intercooler hole. So I tore the sea pump apart to see if we ate the impellers. The boat has a extreme dual stage pump on it. After getting it tore apart the impellers don't seem damaged or tore up.

Before we tore it apart we went and dunked the boat in the lake thinking we weren't getting enough water from the hose that didnt help either.

Anybody have any ideas on what would cause the sea pump to stop working over the winter and the impellers to look in good shape. Almost forgot the boat has no thermostat, so it should flow water right off the bat.

Thanks
Shawn

sounds like you could have a blockage somewhere

he's talking about the factory system you pump up and it opens water dump valves....

How long did you run the engine? It can take a while for drained engine to fill and start dumping water. 20-30 seconds.
Maybe leave the hose on for a while before starting it to fill the system. That can take a few minutes. Start it then and it should be normal. If you have sea strainers it can take some time to fill those, the hoses, coolers, the block and finally the headers.

One time was about 30 seconds, then in the lake for a little over a minute. I'm going to go ahead and replace the impellers. This might be a silly question but are the impellers directional, they are mercrusier impellers?

Brad Zastrow 05-25-2011 10:38 PM

I would agree with changing the impellers. They can get hard and not flex to pump the water. I just pulled one out of a Alpha drive that looked perfect until you took it out. It was hard and curled.
Impellers are not directional. Put them in rotating the same direction they will turn.

Thanks Brad kinda what I thought, I had a little bird chriping they were directional :angry-smiley-038:
