removing painted stripes/logo's safely

The fountain painted name under the windshield on most older boats, someone mentioned masking off and using EASY OFF OVEN CLEANER ?? then scraping with a paint scraper you would use on windows.. then wet sand and buff

sound about right? any other tips?

Used the exact same process to remove the name (sign painters paint) from my old Donzi.

if they sprayed in on which I bet they did, forget the easy off..start water sanding with 220, working up to 1000 or so and buff..

I used these http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...beRJ5GMFSMV0gl

Paint gets hot and comes off, gel was fine and no sanding needed.

Wish I was brave enough to try this. Kudo's to you 4bus, I don't think I have the balls.

Gel stayed perfect, no waves or bumps? So tempting, wet sanding sucks.

These are designed to remove items from paint with no damage, gel coat is much stronger.

Keep in mind I removed just a name from the rear of my boat using this method. Single stage paint that was brushed on. The surface below the paint was perfect, I buffed it when I buffed the whole boat....no waves, however I can still see the name cause the color was prtected by the paint.

Why not soften with the easy off and hit it with one of these? Then you can skip the scraping and sanding.
