Borg & Warner Tranny Question

How often should one be concerned with changing the fluid in the transmission. It's a 1989, the oil looks clean and the previous owner had changed it just prior to me purchasing it 3+ years ago.

How do you go about draining it. I have an oil pump kit for the engines. Is it the same process? Is there a filter to be changed as well?

I change my tranny fluid once a year depending on how much I run. I suck it out w/a pump and to my knowlege the only filter is a strainer that is inside the housing and you only clean it when you rebuild the tranny. thats my .02 I could be wrong on the filter thing but

What volume of fluid is replaced using the "suck and fill" method and what type of fluid?:p

I think around 2.5qts I was told to use Dexron 3 ATF. Keep in mind this is the first boat I have owned w/trannys so you might want to call a marina or high performance dealer to get their opinion Thats how I got all of my info.
