Head studs hitting IMCO manifolds

I just installed my heads with ARP head studs and now my IMCO powerflow manifolds wont fit! They are hitting the top of the nuts of the lower bolts. So do I grind on the manifolds only about 3/16" thick or nuts and studs?

For Real? Grind on the $2000. manifolds or the $100. studs. If all you need is 3/16" cut the stud down so only a thread or 2 are above the nut or use the bolts on the places they hit. Shouldn't be a problem if their torqued properly. Why are you using studs anyway? What heads?

should have got the 12 point nuts..you mat also have to trim the studs..

Should have used the bolt's . This is a common problem with studs .

Thanks guys,
I did get the 12 point nuts, I had to grind the studs and nuts not my best choice, but already got rid of the bolts.
Procharged 8 lbs of boost stock 088 heads. Thought I would try studs after losing a head gasket , they sure torque different that bolts, much nicer.
Starting it up on Saturday, I had Dean Nickerson go through my carb and I added 02 sensors to the risers, we will see how it goes.
It is not fun replacing head gaskets on a Hydro Hoist!

I had the same problem with my gils using ARP bolts! The washers under the bolts held the bolts up high enough to interfere. Had to grind about 1/32 off the manifolds. Then I couldn't use the manifolds anyway because of alignment issues. :(

Its not likely head studs will keep you from losing head gaskets, usually when you lose a head gasket its only one reason, going lean.

If you run cometics you can losen and re torque a couple times too. we do it on our drag cars all the time.

The best head studs and gasket in the world wont hold if it goes lean.

Just my .02
