Any help at all please!

So I am trying to test out my mercathode system and see if it is working right. I dont have the test tool just yet because I dont wanna waste 150$ for a one time use just yet. But is there any test I can do on the Mercathode control unit? Any help will be great.

There is a procedure for testing the both the controller and the electrode components individually, as with getting the reading of the protection provided, but you still need the probe for any/all testing.

If your boat is left in the water and especialy always plugged into shorepower, the probe is a good thing to have.

If your plugged in to shore power having a galvanic isolator is a good idea too....

Ill restate it and give you more detail. I am having a problem with my boat zincs being eaten away/detereating very fast and also a little bit of pitting on my drive. It seems that one side (Port I believe) is worst than the Starboard. My boat is a 1985 Formula 242, with a 350 Mercruser and Alpha 1 outdrive. I have Stainless Steel Prop, and Stainless Steel Trim tabs. I have all the connections and right zincs on my outdrive, even zincs on my tabs. I leave it on a mooring in salt water in a bay, not near any boats pluged into shore power. I have a mercathode system and I dont know if it is working properly or not. I do not have the tester wire to dip into the water and have not tried that. I was wondering if there is any testing I can do on the Mercathode Controler itself to see if it is working? Also what are the chances of that working but the Anode and Refernce on the transom not working? I have the Transom Mercathode system on my boat. Any tests I can do before I buy all new system. Should I just get a new Controler, or whole kit? Do I need more protetion? Any help would be great.

As I mentioned above, you can test the components to see if they are working, but you need the probe and a DVM. The readings you will get from the test probe will lead you to further checks/recommendations......but you need the probe.

The procedure and testing of the items are covered in the Bravo service manual. I just checked mine last week using the probe. very easy to do. Also make sure all your continuity wires are intact.
