Trim tab starting height?

30' Power Quest. twin 496-mag HO's, Lenco 16" single actuator tabs. The manufacturer says to position the tab so that the trailing edge of the tab is 1" above the straight edge line drawn from the bottom of the boat. From the factory mine is about 3" I takes about half of the total extension to get to that 1" Is there a reason they are set that high? I can choose a different hole and lower them??

I've always been told 3/4" to and 1".. 3" seems way to high.

I moved mine Sat. and noticed improvement. Before I had to go too half tab to see and benefit. Cut thru the chop better and when I needed to compensate for the wind it was just a touch!
