have a 502 mag mpi

idles steady around 700
1st detent on throttle it surges between 1100 and 1300, also overshoots , i.e. when you 1st move throttle it goes to about 1400-1500 then settles back to 1100-1300 then surges , its ok all other rpm,

2nd detent runs steady 1700 or so and is steady at all other rpms on up to 5000

also when throttleing down it drops to about 1000 pauses there for 3-5 seconds then drops to 700ish where it is steady
