Upgrading to a gen VI 454 what can i use from my IV
So i picked up a gen VI 454. It was a rebuild and i am not sure on teh horse power but it has large rect. ports. It did not come with a fly wheel. I know these motors are externally ballanced, can i use my fly wheel? I am hoping everythign else i can swap over. Other then fuel pump of course. My motor is the stock motor out of my 87. numbers on the casting 1405445

you also will have to drill out ft brackets and get 7/16 bolts as the gen IV uses 3/8....

If your motor did not come with tin, you will need a Gen V/VI timing cover and oil pan.

my oil pan wont fit? timing cover is there. What do i need for the oil lines? My remote filter wont fit? thanks for the help guys!!

depending on what adapter is down below, no it wont fit. You can do it easily by just getting a spin on adapter. I know most like the bolt on ones, but I have the spin on one. I got mine from eddie marine stupidly, but you can get it from summit much cheaper.
When I repowerd from the IV to the VI I couldnt use my adapter because it didnt have the same bolt pattern in the oil filter housing. You can also make the fittings how ever you want and go wherever you want. Dont worry, Ill bring a parts list when I come over this week!!! |

You can go to a hydrualic line shop. I used a place my comapny uses frequently. They can give you the better higher pressure ends and the line. Again inexpensive, and easy to do. Thats what I used to get me going that first season. Then, as you know, i went to stainless braided. thats what i mentioned above bud easy and inexpesive. Got to have you ready in 20 days to get down here!!! |

This is the pump mine came with, no problems ever. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HLY-12-810/ That is one option for the oil pressure safety switch so you do not run it dry and cook the motor. What else bud??? |
