Blower Clearance

I have a couple of scoops going on the hatch to clear the flame arrestors. I have not made up my mind if I am just going to open the hatch enough to let the breathers through or if I will cut the hatch to match the inside of the scoop. Just curious if there are pro's or con's either way.
