Need Help! Alpha Transom Assy. question

My friend has a 1988 boat with a wasted, corroded up, water leaking alfa transom assembly. We have pulled it out of the boat. We have a 2000 model either gen1 or 2 model assembly to replace it with. My question is will this 2000 model replace the 1988 with no changes or problems? Will the drive and engine bolt back up with no problems? We noticed that the 2000 assembly has a drive lube reservoir circuit and the old drive does not. Can that be blocked off with not problem? Also 2 extra mounting bolt holes but no big deal can drill those no problem. And boat has thru hull exhaust so no problem on Y pipe. Thanks for the info.

Might want to check into that over on iboats.com. Mostly Alpha guru's over there that can answer anything about them and their interchangeability. Just go under the Mercruiser section.

the drive will bolt on,the reservoir can be blocked off on the inside and the drive gasket will keep the water from going in.the only problem is the trim cylinders are different, shorter or longer i forget but if the old ones are still good you will have to use them and the hardware..
try matching everything up first..

Thanks Fixx for the info. Old cylinders are still good. We will check them out.
