Help with Shift problem
 

28 donzi zx twin 350 mercruisers. While Taching about 3 grand my buddy goes to throttle back but grabs both shifters by mistake. It never hit neutral but now I can't pull the shifter into reverse. Works fine forward. Is this a cable issue or a possible drive issue. All opinions appreciated. Thanks.
