so my boat has a built in battery charger and the nice thing i though was i could leave my 12v fridge running and such. Well to find out the charger will shut off after 24hrs with the load of the fridge on and 40hrs with no loads. I will have to trip the breaker for the charger to reset it. Its rated to do 30 or 40amps. The fidgre pulls almost 30amps from what it looks like. Should i get another charger or do the marine chargers all shut off after so many hrs?

I would look up the model of the charger you have and see if it has any kind of timer built in....i have not heard of that on a boat before....most times they run all the time when pluged in and turned on. You may have a breaker going bad. An electrician once told me that house breakers de-grade a little each time they get tripped and it will start to strip at lower amp loads as time goes by....

Ya it's not the breaker going bad. I thInk it's the charger it has some 30hr limit at full charge?

Never heard of a marine charger that shuts off after a given amount of time.

They are meant to be left on 24/365 to keep your batteries up to par for items that constantly have a draw, such as your Mercathode, dc fridge, and the biggy......making sure your batteries will be ready when your bilge pump needss them.

What good is a charger that shuts off, boat developes a leak and your pumps run your battery down and can't be recharged because it shut off?

wonder if theres a thermal overload inside the charger going bad and shutting it down???

If you have to reset the source power, you have a solid state internal overload that's tripping.
