Intake and Carb ?

I have an 89 (twin) Merc 5.7 and is in need of replacing the intake manifolds and carbs. The quadrajunk carbs must go so what have you guys done or suggest for the stock engines? The boat is an 89 Chris Craft 260 Stinger.

If you absolutely must change the intakes...go with an Edelbrock performer with a square bore pattern. Replace the carbs with Holley 600 CFM Marine Double Pumpers and get out of the vacuum secondary business.

This makes a dynamite combo on a stock or slightly modified 350.

Another option to consider ...if you can keep your stock intakes is to get a pair of Re-Built Marine Q-Jets from National Carburetor in Jacksonville, Fl. You can order on line for $199 + ride/Ea. I bought one from them and am impressed with the quality...bolted right on and runs great. You get a lifetime warranty and FYI...they supply all of the rebuilt carbs nationally for Auto Zone. I think they might even have Marine DP Holley's:evilb:

another option is the edelbrock carbs, make a good reliable carb for everyday use..maybe not the sheer H/P of the holleys but work great easy to tune...can use a adapter and use stock intakes as well...just did a pair of small blocks and works great

Thanks for the info. The intakes are in real bad shape so they must go. I will look into the dbl pumper Holley.

I heard they tend to run lean just before the secondaries kick in. Just a rumor.

Attachment 453550I upgraded my twin 350s from stock intakes and 2 bl Rochester carbs to Edelbrock Performers (2104) and Edelbrock 600 cfm carbs (1409). Saw about 4 mph improvement. They worked right out of the box. Here's the before and after shots...
