Old Ethanol Fuel – Add Fresh or Just Burn it?
 

I just got my fresh motors back in the boat. I have half tanks of 92 octane fuel that is from August of last year. I put in red Stabil in September and then the green Stabil in October after I realized there was one specific for marine use. I put in water remover in early June when I thought the motors were almost done. The motors are 500 EFIs. Should I just burn what is in there down below ¼ tanks or add some fresh fuel and then burn the tanks down?

Either way I am going to take it easy on them until I burn it out.

really ? you have half tanks of year old fuel full of additives and preservatives and condensation and christ knows what and you figure to run that thru your brand new motors ? does that really seem cost effective and smart to you ?

be smart. drain it and run it in your truck. or better yet, your lawn mower...

this is one of those " self inflicted disasters" waiting to happen.

New motors + Old fuel = Bad news.

Don't risk your new engines with questionable fuel. We're only talking about 300-400 bucks of fuel. Get rid of it and start anew.

I was under the impression that if you take it easy on it there shouldn't be an issue. I have been trying to figure out a way to get it out, but it will be a pain since my vehicles won't won't hold 60 - 70 gallons. I will see who needs to fill their tanks down at the shop where the boat is.

Thats a lot of fuel to just give or toss away, I understand your motors are new but you started out with high octane fuel and stabalized it properly with the blue stabil, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be good for a year.

I always drain my tanks end of season. I use the gas in my lawnmower and ATV.

take your fuel pickup out of the top of your tank and toss a hose in there to siphon fuel out thats how i do it. i wouldnt say you need to get ALL of it out, but man half tank of year old fuel isnt something i would run in new motors.

i drain the fuel from my boat end of season also now that theres ethanol in the fuel, 5 years ago i wouldnt have bothered....
