Heads are a little big for a 496, you will have to spool it up to 6K RPM or better to get your HP. What outdrive are you planning on using? I would call RMbuilder, I just talked to him a couple of days ago about some upgrades. He said he could get me 620HP out of a 496 with his combo, at a resonable RPM with a 800RPM idle, with a lower compresion of around 9.2

You may want to rethink you project, sounds like a street/strip car setup.

Cam 2 with some 93 octane I know the comp. Is high but the aluminum heads will suck up some of the heat. Didn't have the money for a 632 so I'm gonna sqeeze this lil 496... I'm talking to bob right now and sounds like its doable???

Yea, those heads would be good on a 540. Bob can make it work for you, be sure you keep FRESH premium fuel in it. Maybe not so aggresive with the timing.

well... just remember that no marina is likely to have 100 octane fuel or even 91 you can trust a lot of times... . i'm not suggesting that your combination won't work. it will certainly be a powerful motor but its also going to be pretty picky about what it wants for fuel and operating specs to live. are you sure you want to building a hi reving motor that you want to be mixing fuel for every time you run it ? seems a nice 9 to 1 540 would be a better selection but i suppose it's too late now to turn back...

Boat is trailered to and from marina only 8miles away and get 55 gallon drums of cam 2 so thats not a prob.... as for the longtivity of this engine. The boat only gets ran 4 miles out and back should be fine. Like I said next year if the boat likes the power I'm going to build a low comp. 632 around 800 with a scx. Thanks for the replies guys
