25p turbo prop vs 25 mirage plus

I just got my 89 baja 235 going a couple weeks ago and have been breaking in the motor. This was the first weekend I let the motor run wot for short bursts. We spent all weekend on the water and I was trying two props to figure out which one would work best so I can try to buy once instead of buying and trying...lol The motor is a 454 with peanut port heads, aftermarket cam and high rise intake. I was told by a few people (Bob from marine kinetics being one) that the changes should net a 75-85 hp gain over factory. That aside I don't know the weight of the boat or true hp, but it started life as a 330hp motor before the complete rebuild and aftermarket cam and intake.

This weekend I tried a quicksilver 23p and a turbo 25p (not sure who makes the turbo). The 23p the boat turns 4900-5100 and was running 59-62 mph on a hand held gps. The turbo 25p would run similar top speeds but at 4400-4500. I feel there is more mph in the boat with probably both props, but I was having an issue with trimming the outdrive while at driving. So I would trim up as much as I could while still being able to get on plane and that was all I could do. I'm sure once I get the trim issue worked out I will be able to trim up and get more out of is.

I was thinking about sticking with a 25p because it did give me a faster cruise. Should I go with a mirage plus or stick with the turbo? It seems the mirage plus is what is most commonly recommended. What differences can I expect?

thanks for the replys everyone! This boat has come a long way since I bought it with no motor and it has been worth it!! Tons of fun so far!!!!

Do you know what model Turbo it was? I run a Lightning and it is my favorite all around 3 blade.

I just looked and it says turbo 14 3/4 x 25

I tried an original Turbo but it was several years ago and going off my memory it was very similar to the Mirage+.

25p would run similar top speeds but at 4400-4500

25P is way to big. You will always be under a big load with those RPMS. I assume you still have the cast internals? I would still spin it 4600-4800 with cast parts.

I think you need to get your trim issues worked out first so you can see what the max is with what you have. If you pick up more speed as a result of trimming your RPMs will be different.

Turbo Vector is more apples to apples to a Mirage Plus.
