boat will not plane
Ok guys looking for some ideas, changed oil took boat out ran fine put it on the trailer sat for a week put it back in would not stay running backfired a few times when trying to start. found out pickup coil was bad replaced that put it back in the water would only run 4000 rpm and 45mph vs it's old 5200@80mph.
so i changed the plugs cap rotor and wires. put it in the water will rev fine in out of gear but will not get on plane at all in gear it has a 550 stroker motor in it not very old any ideas all cyclinders have 180 psi:bsflag: |
What is the timing set at, particularly total timing ?
|
I have not checked that I tried the other day but it is hard to see the marks so I have to mark where 0 is then re adjust I never pulled the distrib so i have no idea how it would jump time i did turn the distrib the other day because but would not idel at all so i was in the water and was doing it by sound and sounded nice and smooth but when i went to take off it was like a turd in a toilet lol

Sounds like the timing is off. You need to physically check the timing both base and advance. I would bet that is where your problem lies.
|
Are you still running the MSD? The timing was locked out. I would pull your distributor and see what your distributor gear looks like.
|
yes still running msd everything 6al, pro billiet, msd coil, wires

why would it be fine in netruel and not under a load.
It takes what - 10hp maybe to get to over rev in neutral and how much power to overrev in gear ? Neutral doesn't mean much. In gear and under load everything ! |
New is different not always good. You could have a bad pickup coil. How did you determine that it was bad the first time.

Another spoiler is water in fuel.... I fought this one whole season
boat didn't have a water separater. I drained the tank...added a seperater/filter never had another problem. |
