Lifter bore
Can someone tell me the correct lifter to lifter bore clearance on a BBC with .842 lifters? Engine runs at about 110 degrees.
Thanks Anthony |
I have always believed .0008 to .0025 was ideal but have seen looser on old motors and seen tighter on brand new blocks (need to be honed to proper clearence after heat cycling), Smitty

These bores are measuring right at .842 and a couple lifters were stuck. Im assuming engine builder didnt hone for tolerance. Can these just be honed with a drill to open them up the required amount? Or is it a much more complex maching method requiring a machine shop?
Thanks Anthony |
You're going to have to disassemble the blocks anyway to clean all of the honing grit out of them. Might as well take them to someone with the proper tools to do the job. I agree on the .0015 clear.
