k e performance sbc
 

has anybody tried out K E performance's 480 ftlb torque rated 350? IM curious i have a 23 ft eurosport slc III that weighs about 3500 pounds and am looking for a sbc to put in it. I really want a 400 sbc and im considering having jim bennie build me one but this thing kinda stuck out. the motor only has 330 hp but the torque is what you want right?

It's not about peak torque. It's about how, when, and where the torque is. Ie: how much for how long. So, yes, horsepower is part of it too.

Got a link for the specs of the engine ?

BTW: I'd believe 380ft/lbs..not 480ft/lbs unless a 383cid.
I'd call to find out if a typo.

yeah 330 hp and 480ft/lbs sounds wrong but its listed on two different adds with the same ratings. id really like to get the boat to 65 - 70mph

Your going to need more engine than that to run 65/70 mph that motor new in your boat and tuned right would be 55/60 tops.

KEPP and CP use the same ad copy on everything. CP owns KEPP.

Anyhow, a 330hp enginre with 480ft/lbs would be a 7.4L engine.
A 5.7 will fall between 350ft/lbs and 400/ft lbs depending on build.

To go that fast you'll be better off with a 383 or 406.

I'm at 68+mph with a 350 but a smaller boat.

RMbuilder (MarineKinetics) here at OSO has spec'd many a 383 and 406 that range from 70mph to mid 80mph's.

Go as big as you can go. Cubic inches don't really cost any more money. If you a block and crank have your engine builder put as much stroke in it as possible.
I wish Ford small blocks were more popular, they will fit big stroke without raising the cam. I just finished a 460 Windsor that had 517lb/ft of torque at 2900rpm with a hydrualic roller and 9.5:1.:coolcowboy:

that sounds like a pretty sweet motor
