Flushing LWPU IMCO drives - what muff?
What are you guys using for flush muffs for IMCO LWPU drives?
|
There is a fellow on the board that is custom making a muff that should work pretty good. I'd tell you how he was doing it (it's really simple) but he was very protective of his idea. I think he was 29scarab. PM me if this is wrong and I'll try to find his name at home.

I called IMCO yesterday and was very surprised (and disappointed) that they don't even made a flush muff for their lowers! How can they offer a product without any supporting accessories? The sales guy told me I could put the lower in a large bucket of water - yeah, right - like I want to worry about the water level in the bucket while I'm running the motor while the boat is on the trailer. Thumbs down to IMCO.

I just run my hose to the sea strainer and have my wife on hand to shut the water off when I am done. It works well enough for setting timing and idle.

It is drivfing me crazy a month ago I seen in the back of a boat mag a little ad for a flush muff for the IMCO I tried to find it again but could not. I will dig a little deeper. The reason I remember this is I was looking for the same thing and could not find any so I plumbed my sea strainers too. And a few days after doing so I seen the ad. It's out there.

I'll get that info for you guys as soon as possible!

Try this link, don't now if they will fit but worth a try:
Call Bob's machine shop 1-800-966-3493 or visit http://www.bobsmachine.com (look under the link for storeage boxes at the bottom of teh page) They sell the flush kit for $24.95 I think. |
I just ordered one from Bob's for my Imco lowsers...just to try it.
The alternative is to put a "T" fitting in the sea water pump intake line (easy access at the rear of the motor) and plumb it to a water inlet fitting. It need not be a thru-hull type fitting. In twin applications a single inlet hose can be used with valves to feed either engine. No muss, no fuss...... Just want to have a "quick fix" type flusher on hand....;) |
Will Bob's work???
Here ya go boys
Steve Northington 174 co. rd. 27 Prattville, AL 36067 334/361-8655 [email protected] I bought one but haven't tried it out yet. I did fit it up and it looks like it will. Very simple piece Steve has the P29 with the ProChargers;) |
