Holley or Edlebrock
I need to buy one or the other in a 750 cfm with vac secondaries. Which one?
|
Holley
|
My edelbrock was perfect right out of the box, cheaper than holly and no power valves to deal with
|
If the motor is going to be basically a stock motor to barely mild motor...you will be far better off with the Edelbrock. I have run them for years and have never had an issue with them.

Edelbrock should be fine

I have found tuning the Edelbrock fairly simple with the calibration kit that can be ordered with necessary metering rods, springs and jets. No need to remove carb to tune. |
Why not get mechanical secondaries????
|
I agree on the Edelbrock. If you'd like to fine tune your carb it's much easier to do with Edelbrock. You can change both sets of jets and metering rods in minutes, on the boat and on the water. Don't try that with a Holley.
As far as performance right out of the box the difference would be hard to measure. |
Question??

Griff, If this is asking me, I did not say Mech Sec are not good for the HOLLEY. If you read my post closely, I say that Vac Sec are not good for the Holley in a marine application. The Mechanical Secondaries are good including DP are better for the Holley. I recently upgraded my stock Weber to a 1409 Edelbrock marine on my mild 355 350hp small block and ran terrific right out of the box! Noticed better throttle response and the same top speed with a full tank of gas and two big adults which it never did before. Wow what a difference Very pleased with the carb in my application. Did not have my GPS at hand but am sure I was running at a higher top speed:drink: I went with the many carb calculators out there and was glad I did and did not go with a 750 which may have been to big IMO. One thing I noticed even thought the Weber is the same design as the Edelbrock was that the Edelbrock primaries were smaller than the Weber primaries that were the same size as the secondaries?? Not sure if a change was made on the 1409 and could answer for the better throttle response in the lower rpm ranges. Please note this is just in my application because I know this thread will take a new life and direction as this topic is one that has many opinions. |
What engines are they going on?
Never messed with edelbrocks personally. But have tuned a rebuilt a bunch of holley's. Properly setup, the Holleys work very well in boats. Lots of upgrades available, and parts for them are super easy to come by. |
