Default 2 starter Solenoids

What is the reason for the 2ed Solenoid by the reset button. Was doing some rewireing cleaning up of the engine bay. Will it hurt anything to do away with it.

There was a thread on this subject before, there were mixed opinions. Some were concerned about the voltage drop from the ignition switch to the starter, if the 2nd solenoid was removed. Mine died several years ago, I bypassed it and never had a problem.
