It is a 1988. I can't imagine this boat hitting 75 with 840hp in it. With 730hp and 24p 4 blades it is @ 63 and with 25p mirage @ 67. With 110 more hp do you really think this tanker will pick up that much? I was figuring on 1000 hp for 75 mph.

I have talked to a guy with the same boat with 1200 in it and he is stuck at 80 mph. (Unless he is BS ing me about real #'s)

My 89 292 with 330's will hit 63 MPH on GPS with 24 pitch Hydomotive props. Most 292's and 311 with mags hit 68 MPH. 502's are usually good for 72-73. Either way I'm pretty sure with 880 hp your speed will be between 73-75 MPH. The other guy with 1200 hp is most likely hitting 80 but what lowers does he have? Is he using nose cones? At that speed, there are new things to consider of which will cost more $$$$ to take advantage of. Our lowers are really only good to about 70 MPH after that nose cones will help. I need to call Hydromotive on this very issue.

Yes, I am 100% positive they are mags. They are Gen V 385hp installed in 1998. Not factory. And I have the original build sheet for the boat and "window sticker" as it was sold in 1988 ON june 30th for $80,938.00.

However it came with 454 365hp magnums directly from thunderbird. The orignial carbs and intakes are on these!

The original owner said it ran @ 70 mph with the 25 mirages when the motors were first installed. 13 yrs later losing 3 mph isn't terribly in my mind. I am sure they could use a refresh though.

That may be, I do believe it. For some reason it seems that the 272 hull is just extroardinarily slow!!! I see people making better mph claims all the time in 292's, 303 is it?, and 311's with the same power.

If you look around on this site there are alot of posts stating 62-63 mph from 330's in a 272. I would love to see 75mph in this boat, but I think hydraulkic steering is a must. I feel like I need it @ 67 at this thing seems to wander all over the damn place!

The 272, 292 and 311 all do the same speed with the same power. I missed the fact that your boat did 67 with the mirages. That's why I updated my post. Either way I think with either 420 or 440 clones you'll hit mid 70's. I have a post on what cam and intakes were used on the 440's. I think I'm going to copy that recipe for my engines. Seems to be the most effective way to go. I don't feel like adding new heads, roller cam, intake, ect to build a 500-550 hp engine for an extra 5 MPH, that little bit of extra speed is going to cost an extra $3500 per engine. Not worth it in my opinon.
