575sci would you want them?

getting ready to buy a 2005 fountain 38 w/pair of 575's - has very low 75 hours-what should i look for during inspection? are they fairly low maintenance-i prefer to own 525efis but kinda like the boat-any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Good engines. Lots of info on here, do a search.

Other than being kind of thirsty compared to a 525EFI, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a boat with them.

Is the engine new or used?

If used, pull the thermostat housing to check for blockage from corrosion.

A 28 should get you to 83 ish,,, You MIGHT be able to turn a 30 with a light load.

Your boat only weights 3900 lbs,,, get a good set of tabs as well !!!!!!!

Start out slow and be careful. I worked on a H2X with a procharger and the boat was scary. It chine walked bad. Work yourself up to WOT to see how the boat handles the speed.

A friend has a pair in his 35 Sonic. I rebuilt them a few years back. They have performed flawlessly. One thing I dont like about them is that it is difficult to change the gear oil in the blowers. This winter, I just pulled the blowers off to send them out for a freshen up. Before we put them back on, we came up with an idea to make changing the oil easier. Once they are done, we will post some pics.

The pair of 575 SCI's in my Spectra Cat have been the best set of engines I have owned in 30+ years of buying boats. I would rather have them over the 525 for the difference in power. But just like all engines out here need certain preventive maintenace precedures performed. Like these guys said do a search to gather the info. Just giving you my opinion of the ones I personally owned.

The 575SCI's are very nice little motors. Go for it.

Yes, the 575s are far superior to the 525s. Probably the most bullet proof blower motor out there (as blower motors go...)!

just curious...are the 575 and the 600 close cousins,or completely different?

The 575SCI shares the exact same long block (including the same flat tappet cam) as the old carbureted Merc 600SC

The 600SCI is closer to the 525EFI with closed cooling, aluminum heads and full roller valve train.
