Garage Size?
My wife and I are building our dream house and I have a bay dedicated for my 81 33' Cigarette. My question is what is a reasonable size garage. I am a self-servicing boater. I have had my engines out multiple times but always performed the work outside. What is concerning me is the "right" size garage, to be able to walk engine stands around the boat with good clearances. Any thoughts? Thanks for the help

The boat side of my barn is 15 x 41 inside dimensions.
plenty of room to do any repairs needed. I installed in floor heat also. VERY comfortable and cheap to run. I keep my barn at 50* all winter and 68* and 50% humidity all summer. Can I say I love it. |

With drives and trailer tongue I am looking at 38'. I am building a 16' x 45' addition at the rear of my garage. I would like to go bigger but as you can see from the design layouts it needs to stay the same width as the existing building. If I was you I would go with a 25'x55 building. You did say it was your dream house so why not be the dream garage too :) Make sure to post some pics! http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i4...ss/garage2.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i4...ss/garage1.jpg http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i4...ss/garage3.jpg |
sizes
Probably shouldn't of mention dream house. We currently have a 20x 50 bay in the design, but I was considering shrinking it to 18 (0r 16) x 45. Trying to control costs.
Thanks |

Thanks Well the 33 plus the trailer with drives is probably pushing 40' so that only leaves you 10' at the back of the boat. I think 20' wide should work. Not sure I would make it any smaller unless you have other bays to do all your work in? |

I think it would be wise to go as big as you can go for new construction.....paint the floors in the house to keep costs down, don't sacrifice on garage floor space....just my two cents.

160 ' X 60' should do ya even room for the wifes car :drink::drink:
ROCK ON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:coolcowboy: ITS A SKATER NATION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:drink: |
If I could rebuild my garage I would have made it 5' deeper but the boat side at 15' is wide enough. The work shop side is 20' wide. I would have made it 5' wider if I could do it again. Because I have the work shop side I don't need more than 15' wide on the boat side.

Might consider a detach...that way you wont piss off the wife every time you fire up whatever toy you are working on in the garage.

Back wall is 6' tall concrete wall holding back 5 1/2 feet of earth. RH side has a 14' tall ceiling, LH side has an 11' ceiling.

I just built a 12'x12' shed with a 9'x7' garage door. I vinyl sided it, roofed it, and added vented soffit for air circulation and attached it to a cement pad with a built in ramp for around 2 grand. When I put the bike on its jack I can spin the bike around facing the door and ride right out. I also have plenty of room for a lot more bike things in there.

I have a 5 car garage and I’m building another one.
I have a buddy that put up a two level garage. 110’ X 50’ He still filled it… Bottom Line- You can’t build it big enough. Build as much as you can borrow and then some.:drink: |

Go HUGE!! You will fill it up. I guarantee it.
I've got a 30x60 pole barn with 12 feet ceiling height. Search for Active Thunder Toy Box here on OSO. |

You can debate the W X L forever. If you are going to pull the engines from a hoist, you need a min of 14' clear height.
|
from my experience.
go as big as you can, but only what you can afford. you end needing alot of space. for other things! in the future sports cars motorcycles go karts etc bigger is better. best of luck n have fun or do not do it |

P.S. that's using a 6" I-beam a roller trolley and a 3-Ton chainhoist. You can probably shave a bit of headroom from what I have.
The real ticket is if you could integrate an x-y gantry crane into the structure of your shop during construction. |

Thanks If I move up in boat size now, it would cost me probably 8-10k to make my garage 8-10' longer. Its 40' deep now. It would have cost me about 3k to do it when I originally had the house built. I kick myself all the time for not doing it then. |
