If there is fuel in the lube front or back the seals are gone. If you spin it and the rotors touch or there is roughness the bearings/gears are suspect. You should be able to look at the rotors and see no wear anywhere. Ive changed bearings/ seals in mine and retimed the rotors, its quite simple and cheap. The only thing I couldn't find was shims for under the gears to adjust rotor timing, I had to make them. Also it would be best to get one with a keyed input shaft so you can swap pulleys. Merc had a bastard spline design that limited selection and now availability of pulley size by a lot. I changed out my inputs shafts but it was not cheap.
Blue Thunder, How to set the rotor timing right in that blower what is the reference? |

There is a rotor to rotor clearance spec and you check it using feeler gages. You make adjustments by shimming under the angle cut drive gears on the front of the blower. Because they are angle cut shimming in-out changes the rotor relationship/clearance. I have the spec.ed clearances for the 177 if anyone needs them.
Please send to: [email protected] or by private message. Thanks |
Here they are in case anyone else needs them for a weiand supercharger.
