holes in thermostat.......

if i decide to run a thermostat...and i drill the holes in it as most recomend...do i still need a thermostat bypass? im tunning super comp jet boat headers with a bravo drive. (open egnine bay) using the sea pump as a means of water supply. i dont think i will need a thermostat at all.......but in case i do i was just wondering.....

thanks!

just wanted to add:

i am running a dual outlet thermostat housing with both outlets running overboard for my engine water dump. the water for my headers comes from the auxillary outlet on the crossover tube and is controlled by an adjustable RPM window switch and a solenoid valve. the header water turns on at 1500 rpm and off below 1500 rpm.

since my header water is not coming from the engine but rather a raw water source....shouldnt i be able to drill the holes in the stat and run it without a bypass?

i only got to test run the boat a few times before winter set it in and temps were not a problem...but im just planning ahead for spring just in case.

thanks.

You can pitch the thermostat, but you may need a restrictor instead to slow down the water enough to absorb the engine heat.

What he said. I had all kinds of problems with to low water/oil temps because of this.

just take the center out of your current t-stat and try that first..moroso & jeggs makes restrictors,,or if you have 2 1/8'' hole punch you can make your own like i do,,then you can adjust the hole size to the heat temp..
