4500 to 4150 flange on this intake
looking to install a crossover on my engine. the problem is that my intake is a little rough in the thermostat area. it wont properly hold a thermostat. I have a dart off of a 500hp. i run in frehwater. i have the 4150 800 holley off of a 500hp as well. i was looking at this intake (link below) seems to be a good single plane. and looking at this flange (link below) will this hinder my performance. looks like the taper will make it look like a big diamond shape. anyone running this combo? any other suggestions. And i DO want to run a thermostat. I could just bolt up the crossover and run no thermostat but i have mixed emotions. my friends hustler has wesco engines in it and it has oil thermostats (which i have) and no coolant thermostat. should i just go that direction? I have a hard time as is getting my oil temps above 160 anyways.

Looks like your going to have over $320 in that set up after shipping. Why not just kick in another $20 and get the right one.

Fixer,
Without a picture its hard to say, but if your present intake is aluminum and the rest of it is in good shape, I bet it would be less than a $100 job to weld it up and remachine a good seat for the thermostat. Or maybe just make a small 1/8" thick "repair" plate to hold the thermostat ? Actually sounds like a good product to make ? |
i never use a thermostat with a crossover, ive been doing it like that for years with no problems,i do use oil thermostat to help get the oil up to operating temp,my water temp will go to 130,oil 200,when running hard.

Nothing wrong with not running a water stat Mitch. Sure your water temps will be cooler, but not a big deal in freshwater.

Thank for the info. Yeah, my water temp never goes over 140 running hard it actually drops to around 135. if im cruising at a higher rpm (like 3800) i can get 145-147 out of the coolant temp. oil temps stay low as well. should i just keep what i got or get rid of that circ pump? Is it really worth it. The weight, the hoses and stuff, and the power it robbs?
