Hyd roller lifter help please
I'm trying to get all the parts together for my rebuilds on my merc 500EFIs, just wondering whos, and which lifters would be better to use, the dog bone style, or the vert. tie bar ones, I'm using Cranes 169691 camshaft, Eagle L19 rods, JE pistons, AFR heads, Whipples S/C.....thanks for the help, Joe

I run the morel dog bones and have had good success with some pretty hard running.

Get ahold of RMBUILDER. |
+3 for RMBuilder (marine kenetics). I used dog bone style morel lifters in my last engine build and was very happy with the results.

My thoughts and observations have been that the GM dogbones keep the hydraulic roller lifters from rotating in their bores under loads better than the top mount aftermarket tie-bar hydraulic roller lifters and this in a factor which I believe allows lifters in dogbone retainers to last longer than tie-bar units and there also seems to be less breakage. If you have a smaller base circle camshaft (less than 1.200") diameter with a higher lift of +.650" then the taller aftermarket lifters like the Morels mentioned here may be a must to keep the lifter from dropping down out of the tie bar, which can be disasterous!
