Prop question

I was supposed to have a 28 pitch labbed bravo 1 on my Velocity when I purchased it. I could never get the boat dialed in with this prop. I sent it out to be rebalanced and blueprinted and they told me the prop was completely messed up. They sent it back and it looks great. Does anybody know how many mph I might gain? I was hitting 70 at 4900rpm. Thanks.

More info is needed. How was the prop messed up?

Hopefully you pick up rpm's with the prop work or i would think you would be back at the same mph. What was wrong with the prop?

Woops... just noticed you have a single so this may not apply.

I have stock 28 bravo props, 1.5 gears and run 80 at 5k and 84 at 52-300 in a 30 velocity, if I can drive it... It does have -2 IMCO lowers

Just for compairison sake

Pretty broad question, really matter what was wrong with it and what they did to fix it....did they re-pitch it??? Etc etc etc...

No way to tell without running a stock prop first to get a baseline.

Thanks for responding. It is a 2007 29' Velocity 496 mag HO, 1.5 gears. The boat runs great, but I noticed the prop just didn't look right. They didn't say exactly what was wrong with the prop, just that it had been re-worked before and wasn't done properly. They repitched it to 27. I'm hoping for 3 - 4 mph.

4900-5000 is actually where you want to be with the 496HO. If the prop were previously labbed to 28", slip would have been high with 1.5 gears. 19% to be exact. As Griff said, a non-labbed prop would've been nice for baseline testing. If they have sorted the prop out and with a good slip of say, 10-12% 71-72 would be the number, probably at a slightly lower rpm around 4700-4800. 27" and low 70's are quite a high pitch for the 496HO. 70 is not that far off for a single 496HO Velocity 29', so I don't think you should expect a huge increase, probably a more efficient cruise. Best thing you can do, is to bolt it on and how it works. If you can get your hands on a non-labbed 26" and 28" for comparative testing, you should do that. I would actually highly reccomend it.
