Default Smartcraft help!

hey guys! I am wanting to install a Smartcraft SC1000 monitor in my Velocity. It havs a 496 HO builtt in 11/2002 and says on the cover that it is Smartcraft ready.

What do I need to hook it up, and what will it show me, and not show me??? Is the fuel flow sensor in a 496 HO already factory installed? What other sensors are already there or not there?

it will work you will need a smartcraft cable that reaches from the motor to the helm and the display you would like to use. I had 2 496's with 2 SC1000's and 1 SC5000 system view. If you want to use more than one display you will also need a junction box and more cables to connect everything. It is all very simple to install and just plug and play. The sc1000/5000 will show the same information from the engines, rpm, oil temp/press, water temp/press, voltage, gph, any alarms or codes, engine hours, air temp, if I remember correctly. My boat was a 2002 and the fuel information was there. I would just get a cable and an SC1000 to start you can put it where your tach is now and see how you like it. I was really happy with my set up.

Thanks for the info! Where does it hook up on the motor? It works in conjunction with the already-installed analog gauges (non-Smartcraft gauges)? If so, I will get one today!

there is a plug on the harness towards the back of the motor, just plug it in and your good to go. The existing analog gauges won't be affected, totally separate systems.

I have a 20 foot smartcraft cable with the built in terminating resistors that would work with the SC gauge you are considering. Just plug it into the engine and the other end into the gauge and you are ready to go. Note that if you want to use more than one gauge, this is not the cable for you, but it is the simplest and easiest way to hook up a smartcraft gauge. It is opened but unused. Paid $80, sell for $50.

Does any SC1000 work, or are there some for outboards and different ones for stern drives? Looking at the plain system monitor version. Not the tach or speedo type gauges.

they are all the same in terms of function but you can get them with a round white housing that look better than then grey and black square ones but they work the same.
