Lathem p/s press. hose replacement?
I need to have one of my p/s pressure hoses replaced; found a small crack in the crimp at one of the fittings. There are several companies around this area that make hyd. pressure hoses; is there anything special I should be should be asking for since this is being used in a boat?
Other than good quality high pressure hose and stainless fittings of course. Can good quality braided lines and fittings (such as Aeroquip) be used for this type of steering? We used to make our own p/s lines using there products for my dirt track racecars but since I'm still a little new to this boat stuff i figured I'd better ask. |
They have to have the correct degree angle on the fitting to seal the male/female connections. I do not believe the braided stuff has a high pressure rating.
I went to several regular industrial hydraulic hose when I needed one and none had the correct fitting for my Marine Machine steering. I finally found an Aeroquip distributor and they had the correct fittings and made one up for me. They used something regular hyd hose rated for around 2000psi. |
Is it a ouside hose? If so just call latham and get a new one. I just installed a mayfair system and the outside hoses are braided. If its an inside hose just cut off the fitting and bring it to a hydraulic. You should have enough slack to put a replacement fitting back in.

It's one of the inside hoses; the main pressure line from the junction block to the filter. Not sure if there is enough slack to cut it off and add a new fitting. I'll do some checking around the local shops that make hyd. hoses.
Thanks for the info. |
