Spare prop mounts
 

Anyone use the "PROP-IT" prop mount? I have seen may other nicer ones but for $16.00 it seems like a deal:

I had one of these on my old boat. I got it from Overtons I think. It kept getting loose while holding the prop. After every trip I would have to turn the knob about a quarter turn or the prop would rattle around. After one season the carriage bolt that the knob screws on to pulled out of the plastic base. Took the whole thing out and did my best to fix it but to no avail.

Get a metal one, stainless if possible.

can you imagine what a prop fy'n around in your engine room could do?? :eek:
would NEVER chance it...anyhow if you hit somethin with a ss prop that you can idle home on you gots other problems!

It was my intention to get a damaged prop shaft and weld it to a stainless plate. Drop the prop on, spin the nut down and you're good to go!

CP performance sells one made out of SS, built like a tank, I've had one in my boat for 3 years and never a problem. The plastic ones are a waste of money

The spare prop holders I bought came from Doller they were only around 100.00 for both of them and seem to be very strong. I think they are powder coated. Scott

I have the PROP-IT mount from Overton's mounted flat in my engine compartment. I also have a $100 COMPROP mounted in it, from Overton's as well. It is plastic and is rated for 300HP, (enough to get back to the dock on plane with the HP500). I have no problem with it. I also perfromed this launch:

with a 28 Hydro bolted into the PROP-IT on the Potomac River Poker Run last year, and it held securely, although I was worried. It is a high ABS plastic, but it might be worth making a metal base plate.

CheckmateF1 also has the same setup I do, with a COMPROP attached, mounted vertically under his rear seat.
