camshaft suggestion

I have looked for a crane roler camshaft and a rep of Crane cam suggest me a grind that I am not able to optain.

What can you suggest for the best all arond performance.

This is my prospect setup for this summer:

525sc upgrade to B&M 250 blower want to boost 7-8 psi.
460ci, single 1050 carb (525sc carb)
7,7:1 comp ratio on aluminium performer rpm Edelbrock head
Callies Compstar H beam rod
CMI (stock 525sc headers gen 6) wet exhaust.

I have look some other crane cam no 168731 - 168791 - 168761 and the 168741.

I dont know if the 168741 is to much cam for that setup any help and recommandation will be apreciate.

Thanks

I ran a Blower Shop 250 Blower with 9 pound of boost on a Gen VI 540 a while back with the 741 cam in the motor and I will tell you...the motor came alive with the blower and that cam...especially at over 4000 rpm. I dont think you will have too much by using the same 741 cam in your 502.

X2 on Madara, you'll spend slightly less than a Crane roller and have it designed specifically to your application. Bob's number is 585-654-8583

My cam is similar to the 741, but ground on a 114LSA. The duration and lift is very close. Mine are actually Crower grinds. They sounded very healthy for a 460CI. I dont know how much power mine made, they were never dynoed. But, I do know that with a 250 B&M, 7lbs of boost, they ran very well at 5500RPM. If I had to guess, around 650HP at 7lbs, maybe even a little more. I have Dart alum heads, and about 1 full point more compression than you do.

My new setup is fresh rebuilds, .060 over (was .030), same cams, but now B&M 420 blower. My goal is to underdrive the blower, for cooler temps and maybe a bit more power.

Do you have dry or wet exhaust? I am afred with water reversion. The stock 525sc cam have an overlap of 4 deg at .050 and the 741 cam have 16 deg overlap at .050.
So i dont know how to determin when you can get a posibility of water reversion do you have some experiance with that?

MILD THUNDER 03-14-2012 11:33 PM

I have dry tails now. But i did run the 741 with stainless marine wet tails before with no reversion issues.

The next question should be at what point was the water injected into the exhaust stream , at the transom or farther up the pipe . Leave nothing to chance when it comes to possible reversion .

Take all the guess work out of it and do it right once. Another wote for Bob Madara/Marine Kinetics. It's a no-brainer.

How many rpms do you want to spin the engine????

The 731 or 741 will work fine and neither should have reversion issues with the CMI's.

I used a 731 in my 525SC with no problems. It will make good power to at least 5300rpms. That is where I spun mine since I kept the stock rev limiter. The 741 will make a little more power on the top end, but you will need to spin it faster, probably 5600+ rpms.

Contacting Bob M is always good advice and he can custom grind you something possibly better.

yeap..contact Bob...just redid 2 525SC's upgraded to his designed rollers...look no further...

I want to spin the engine at around 5300 rpm like your setup, i will run with the stock 525sc gen 6 rev limiter and ignition for this summer.
