distributor sensor wheel
i have a 7.4 mk4, when i line up the rotor to no 1 at tdc should the sensor be between the teeth on the sensor wheel or on a tooth. getting conflicting info. thanks

on can get it on a tooth just i think i will just walk the dist back and forth. it just becomes frustrating trying to get it to line up with no1 wire and a tooth while keeping it at 0tdc. any other tips would be great thanks. as at the moment when she fires it backfires and pops and won't go above 1500 rpm with out spluttering really bad.

Pay no attention to the teeth on the inside of distributor. Get no1 cyl up on TDC. Drop dist in with rotor pointing towards #1 spark plug. Will probably have to turn engine over a little to get dist to go into oil pump drive. Bring #1 back to TDC, note position rotor is pointing. Put on cap and put #1 plug wire where the rotor is pointed. Then work your way around cap with the rest of the wires. Clockwise 18436572. Fire it up and set timing.

whenever i drop the distributor in and if its a carb engine i will line the crank up with the degree the engine is supposed to be set at,lets say timing is supposed to be 8* btdc i will put the crank at 8*..then i put the cap on the distributor and with a white paint stick i will mark the inside of the lip where # one cylinder lines up then aleign the tip of the rotor with the center of my mark..they always fire rite up and i'm usually a degree or two off..

have set it to 8 btdc and it fires up. sits at 650 rpm runs a little rough when i rev it up to about 2000 rpm i checked ignition advance and it sits at 0. even if i rev it to 2600 there is no further advance. by the color of the exhaust it is running lean. i have a edelbrock 1410 fitted screws set st 1 1/2 turns out. no apparent vacuum leaks. any more thoughts. ignition module is mounted to port riser and has v824 stamped on it. rectangular in shape.

Looks like max timing is in at 3400 rpm, at 24 degrees. Plus 8 degrees inital at less than 750 rpm. So 32 degree at 3400. |
