And they are $3200.00 ...convert that to canadian and i am 1/2 way to a supercharger.

If you don't feel like messing with it, just re-prop. Less wrok and if you sell the old prop you will break even on $$. Plus you will learn a few things about the boat's set-up while prop testing and additionally....it gives you a good reason to run around WFO for a few evenings during the week;)

ive had about 8 props on it so far, i like the bravo 1 but the mirage is about 3 mph faster

Originally posted by Griff NO WAY!!! will you gain 8-10mph by raising the X 2 inches. If it was that simple don't you think everyone would do it???? You might gain 2-3 mph and thats only if it was set up deep to begin with. You think raising your existing outdrive is simple or cheap on an IO? Why do you think stern jacks on OB HiPo setups work so well?? It's called X dimension dude. Going into this I was skeptical to.... especially shelling out over 4k Cdn for the Alpha shorty.... BUT: Best I got with my stock 1.50 Alpha with a new 410HP 383 sbc @ 5200 RPM with a 25P Mirage on GPS was 66.3 MPH. Switched to an Alpha SS with 1.32 gears and turned a 23P Mirage 5200 RPM at 75.2 MPH on GPS. You explain to me what the difference is then.... Because all I switched was the outdrive and prop. The 25P mirage would only turn 4800 RPM @ 73 MPH.... Talk to anyone who's done it, especially on a small boat with high HP. :) |
Im in Canada as well ... Where did you get your lower?

You can bolt on a new IMCO lower half for ~4k cdn new, or put the word out and pick one up through one of these BB's for less. Mine was an Alpha Gen ll so I had to find a complete Alpha SS which is 2.5" shorter and has a nose cone. They're very rare as they were made between 86 and 89. I was at the right place right time with the right cash. I'm still dialing it in, not completely happy with the prop setup just yet. nice to have summer toys while the cats are sleeping, eh..... :) |
thanks for the info.. ill see what i can find. Do you have any leads in Canada for exhaust manifolds?

Steve,
Check out this web page: www.hotknots.com they're in Orillia Ont and are plugged into performance boating in Canada. Maybe they can help. I've been there, nice operation. Also I may have a contact for a brand new polished IMCO shorty lower. He just bought it, then before he could install it, blew up his new 500HP BB last friday. He wanted me to buy it before he knew I had an Alpha SS. I'll ask him next time I see him if I can pass his # to you. He's not "bucks up" at the moment. |
