Oil Pressure Guage Malfuntion?
Well, this aint a fun question, considering I have about 20 hours on my fresh motor. My stock Faria oil pressure guage is getting a little crazy while running. Pretty unpredicatable, drops and vibrates and all sorts of stuff. Oil level is fine, oil temp never goes over about 215, etc. All signals would say it is a bad guage, but that's a pretty risky assumption. Anyone had these guages go bad. 98 Outlaw, 230 hours. All other stock guages operate fine and all the guages I installed operated fine as well.

Don't assume you have a bad guage or sender...although that is quite likely. I thought the same thing last year on my 40hr 632...guage was right...spun three center mains...two rods brgs:mad: The reason....my pick-up fell off so that explained the "crazy" readings I was seeing. Two suggestions; screw in a mechanical guage and see if your its still doing it and cut open your oil filter to see if you have bearing material in it. I converted to a mechanical guage so a "lying" guage won't be suspected again. |
ITS THE GUAGE OR THE SENDING UNIT CALL ME I GOT ONE.

You need to test it with a mechanical gauge. I had the same problem, the guage said 10-15 lbs at WOT  It was a bad sender.. brought the boat home and ended up putting in a full mechanical gaffrig gauge in the dash.. oil pressure it great now.. and i can trust the gauge.

That's what I was thinking, pressure was 65 lbs on the dyno. Merlin, I'll call you or catch up with you this weekend and give you the official "approval" on the banana upgrades.....like it needed any....
