Back of engine steam relief
I was reading many threads about connecting the back water ports on the intake manifold to the front water ports to relieve any steam build up. It makes sense to me so I decided to order some fittings + hose. I was planning on running -6 an ss hose with russel stainless fittings.
My question is I am still running a circulating pump and a thermostat..Will this be ok ..I do not have a bypass and I do not plan on getting one. They cause problems when the water temps are 50 degrees Northern NY in the spring season. The thermostat gets confused open close open close etc... Thanx |
Have you had any problems running the motor in stock condition ? you may just open a can of un-wanted worms.

I asked about this on my sbc a few post down and have not received much feedback on the topic. Run them forward, run them to the exhaust riser with check valves, or run them overboard? Read about it somewhere, I think here on oso, but can't remember

If it were nessesary MERCURY would have them on there motors.

bob teague recomends running them overboard on any siamese block, when i do this job i use-4 hose,t the 2 sides togeather, and run i one line overboard.

I'm at the same point. Drilled my Manifold for 3/8 today, not sure if im gonna go overboard, or tie into the front. Either way should be easy, but I think I'll start by just dumping overboard

Is that with a water pump, crossover or both ?

WAVEFORM,go overboard,that is what works.

Thanks for your replies. I can't see any harm in doing this if anything it would relieve air trapped. While the circulating pump or a bypass setup is pushing water into the block how do we know it is getting to every spot around the each cylinder especially if there is air being trapped. With this connection I think it would a more even flow.. In through the block front and up out both ports back to the t'stat housing/circulating pump in.
