502 MPI Fuel Rail Assembly

I have a 2006 502 MPI (OKO21346) and am having a heck of problem getting the fuel rail assembly to clear the four runners on the lower intake once the injectors have been freed from the intake. No matter how you twist and turn it, the bottom of the injectors come in contact with the runners. It appears a few of the injectors have to be removed from the rail to get the entire rail free of the lower intake. Is there a trick to this?

pull the injectors at the ends and it should help. I know on mine I have to leave one or two out to get it back in.

Leave the 4 injectors in the manifold on one side and remove the other 4 with the rail....comes out easily that way.

How is the injector held in the rail?

Griswald 04-13-2012 02:52 PM

they just push up in there and are sealed with an o-ring. They are held in place when you tighten the rail to the manifold

You da man, Griswald. I pulled one injector and the entire assembly came right out!.

Thanks again!

make sure you replace the o-ring on the injector you pulled out or all if you can. They're not likely to seal again. I always dab a bit of grease on them so they don't roll or bind on the way back in.

You can get those o-rings from NAPA way cheaper than from Merc.

Still Crazy 04-14-2012 10:08 AM

Do you know the NAPA P/N?

Griswald 04-15-2012 09:52 AM

or, go to just about any fuel injection service company and they should be able to match. Wouldn't be a bad idea to get new filters for the tops either.

If I may ask, why are you taking the rail off?
