Harmonic balancer question 454 gen VI

How can you tell if the harmonic balancer is pushed back on the crankshaft all the way? My power steering pump pulley does not seem to line up and I'm beginning to think the balancer is not all the way back on to the crankshaft? It's a Gen VI crate 454 425 ho.

Just measured one sitting in my shop. 1/4" gap between the top of balancer and the timing cover. Stock plastic cover, measured it with an allen wrench, slid in perfectly.

I just went to measure mine. I have a 1/4" gap between the balancer and the timing cover just below the top of the balancer. The timing cover buldges out at this point. Just at the top of the balancer and above it is probably 3/8-1/2" gap. Where exactly did you measure? I'm thinking my balancer might be sticking out too far by a little over 1/8 inch.

If you remove the balancer bolt, you will be able to see the end of the crank snout. The shoulder on the balancer where the washer and bolt sit should only be about .100 out from the end of the crank snout. In other words, they should be almost flush.

on a gen VI the balancer bottoms out on the reluctor wheel that sits in front of the crank gear, or the thicker crank gear to make up difference...had a issue on that part left out at the factory and the balancer was never bottomed out and wobbled out after 50 hours of running....just something to watch out for...
